The Ephemeral Fort
wood on concrete (2024)
The Ephemeral Fort is about the desire for stability and the elusiveness of permanence. In this work, I transform a construction staging area for the East Don Trail Park in Toronto into a makeshift public art by installing wooden planks sourced from construction sites on top of large concrete boulders.
Here, I leave a fleeting mark on the landscape I called home for 15 years, as it undergoes rapid change and is on the verge of gentrification. This project was completed during my residency with the School of Visual Arts NYC.
